Coal Harbour
Floating Retreat
Tucked along Vancouver’s waterfront, this thoughtfully designed houseboat reimagines small-space living with style and sophistication. Guided by the surrounding water and natural light, we embraced a fresh coastal palette and layered it with warm oak millwork, crisp white panelling, and playful bursts of pattern and colour. Every inch of the compact footprint was maximized to create a sense of spaciousness without compromising on character or comfort.
The layout flows organically—from the galley-style kitchen anchored by sculptural brass fixtures, to a cleverly concealed powder room featuring a deep blue concrete sink and whimsical lighting. Custom built-ins and integrated storage ensure functionality stays seamless, while elements like the lemon-printed banquette and rope-accented staircase nod to the nautical setting with a wink. The patterned floor tile adds depth and movement, subtly tying the spaces together.
Designed as both a serene escape and a livable full-time home, this houseboat celebrates the beauty of restraint with just the right amount of fun. Every design choice—down to the vintage porthole window and ombré wall papers—was made to spark joy and connection to place. The result is a space that feels both grounded and transportive, proving that even the smallest homes can have a big personality.
