Downtown Vancouver
M8 Asian Fusion Restaurant Design
We envisioned M8 as a sensory journey that would reflect the innovative culinary artistry of its talented young chef. Our design concept marries the raw elegance of industrial elements with the lush vibrancy of tropical influences, creating a space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. The concrete floors and exposed ceiling infrastructure provide an honest architectural foundation, while our carefully curated material palette—featuring distressed antiqued mirrors, teal velvet upholstery, and artisanal wicker seating—adds layers of texture and visual intrigue throughout the space.
Our biophilic approach became a central narrative in the restaurant’s identity. We incorporated cascading greenery above the bar area and integrated living plant elements that appear to reclaim portions of the space, creating an immersive “tropical jungle” atmosphere. The dramatic ceiling installation, with its abundant ferns and trailing vines, transforms the dining experience into something transportive and unexpected. This verdant canopy not only softens the industrial framework but also improves acoustics and creates intimate zones within the open plan.
We balanced these natural elements with artistic statements that honor the restaurant’s Asian fusion concept. The custom murals—featuring stylized figures holding botanical elements on one wall and expressive leopard motifs in the restroom—provide conversation-starting focal points that complement the dining experience. The antiqued mirror cityscape installation behind the banquette seating reflects and amplifies the space while adding depth and urban context. Throughout the project, we maintained a delicate balance: creating a distinctive design signature that would enhance rather than compete with the culinary artistry at the heart of M8’s identity.
