When our clients invited us into their newly purchased 1929 Kitsilano home, we recognized the inherent tension between preserving its historic charm and creating a functional space for their growing family’s vibrant lifestyle. The original floorplan, while architecturally beautiful, didn’t accommodate the reality of birthday parties, family gatherings, and the daily rhythms of modern family life. We approached this challenge as an opportunity to honor the home’s character while thoughtfully reconfiguring spaces to support connection and celebration.

Our design narrative centered on casual elegance—a philosophy that marries sophistication with livability. We curated a harmonious palette of finishes and fixtures that would feel both timeless and welcoming, selecting materials and details that could withstand the joyful chaos of family life while maintaining their refined appeal. The hexagonal tile backsplash, coffered ceilings, and carefully chosen color story create visual interest without overwhelming the space, allowing the architecture itself to shine.
