Top Interior Design Trends For 2019
December is an exciting month. It’s when we slow down and focus on family and the holidays. For designers, it is the time of year when we eagerly anticipate the New Year and what it means for design trends. Our design team is poring over magazines and scouring Pinterest hoping to see what colours and styles are predicted to be popular in 2019. The New Year is great for inspiration, so here are our very favourite trends that are carrying over from 2018 and will make 2019 a year to remember!
1. Materials Matter!
Glass, wood, metal, and terrazzo all continues to be important for 2019 interior design! We loved seeing so many different styles dictate multiple trends in materials this year. In 2019 we will see organic, natural materials like jute and rattan continue to be popular, but we also predict that mirror and coloured glass will be used in modern, art deco inspired spaces. Terrazzo has made a comeback and can add drama or fun in a contemporary space. There are no limits to what we will see, but it’s a more dynamic range of styles and materials for sure.

2. Curves in Furniture.
As we mentioned above we predict seeing a surge in art deco inspired interiors, especially in commercial design. With a truly deco room we will see elegantly rounded corners and softer shaped furniture. We think this trend will be big next year.

3. The Colour Green.
And even more specifically a deep rich green. With the continued popularity of blush tones and rich velvets, expect to see a deep luxurious green pop up in almost every room as an addition to this pallet. From wall coverings to kitchen cabinets, we think that this colour will predominate 2019.

4. Smart Sleek Appliances.
As homes become even more tech savvy, and clients demand to see less of the function of appliances, we expect to be asked for more wireless charging stations and paneled refrigerators in the New Year. Homes are becoming a true retreat from our everyday chaos and homeowners want their appliances to work and blend seamlessly into their spaces.

5. Custom Art and Furniture.
We consistently have requests for furniture, art and accessories with a story and a history. Hand made ceramics, locally crafted furniture, and artwork from west coast artists is in high demand. Homeowners want to add layers to their homes using handmade products created by local artisans. This continues to be a major trend for 2019.

6. Matte Black.
Although, as we mentioned above, we expect to see many materials and finishes this year, matte back will continue to predominate fixtures for kitchens and bathrooms. After years of low contrast white kitchens, we think that a modern matte black handle will still be popular in 2019.
These are our favourite trends in interior design moving into 2019. We hope that you are as inspired as we are and we wish you all the best and a very Happy New Year from Space Harmony!
